Frequently asked questions
If your question is not here, call us or send a WhatsApp message — we would rather answer it than have you guess.
Visiting us
What are your opening hours?
Our current opening hours are listed on the location page and in the footer of every page. If you need something outside those hours, call ahead and we will tell you what is possible.
Where exactly are you located?
We are on Old Express Road in Aba, Abia State. The location page has written directions using local landmarks, which are usually more useful than a map pin here.
If you are travelling from outside Aba, call or send a WhatsApp message and we will talk you in.
Pharmacy
Do I need an appointment to speak to a pharmacist?
No. Come to the counter during opening hours and ask. Advice is free and you do not need to buy anything.
If you would rather not discuss something at the counter, say so and we will find somewhere more private.
Can I order medicines online or have them delivered?
Not at the moment. Prescription medicines are dispensed in person against a valid prescription, and we do not currently sell or deliver online.
You can call or send a WhatsApp message to check whether something is in stock before you travel.
What should I bring for a prescription?
Bring the prescription itself and, if you can, the packaging of anything else you are currently taking. That lets the pharmacist check for anything that might interact.
Mention pregnancy, breastfeeding or any known allergies when you hand it over.
I take several medicines from different clinics. Can you check them?
Yes. Bring them all in together, in their original packaging, and a pharmacist will go through them with you and check whether anything is duplicated or working against something else.
This is worth doing even if nothing feels wrong.
Products
How do I know whether something is in stock?
Call or send a WhatsApp message with the name of the product and we will check before you make the journey.
Stock changes week to week, so the categories listed on this site show the range we carry rather than a live inventory.
Why are prices not shown on the website?
Prices change, and a price listed here that is wrong at the counter helps nobody. Call or ask in store for current prices.
Can you advise on skincare or baby products?
Yes, and it is worth asking. Skin and scalp reactions are common, and some products are not suitable during pregnancy or for young children.
Ask at the pharmacy counter before buying — there is no charge for the conversation.
Referrals
What is the Swiss medical referral service?
It is help for patients and families in Nigeria who are considering specialist treatment in Switzerland — from the first conversation through to the invitation letter a visa application needs.
It is handled by Mr Onyia, who lived and worked in Swiss hospitals and clinics. Contact us and he will explain what is involved, what it would cost, and what we can and cannot help with before you commit to anything.
Who handles referral enquiries, and where?
Mr Onyia handles every referral enquiry personally. He lived and worked in Switzerland in hospitals and clinics, and speaks, reads and writes German, so he deals with them directly.
The consultation takes place at Amavin in Aba, over the phone, or online — whichever is easier for you.
How much does the referral service cost?
The charge depends on what is actually needed. A patient who already holds a travelling visa and the required documents needs less work than one starting from nothing, and is charged less accordingly.
There is no single price to quote, which is why we do not publish one. You will know what it will cost during the consultation, before committing to anything.
Why is a deposit needed before an invitation letter?
A Swiss hospital will not issue an invitation letter until a deposit has been paid into its account. That letter is what the visa application is built around.
The hospital sets the amount and the money goes to the hospital. It does not come to Amavin — we neither hold nor receive it.
What happens if the visa is refused?
If the visa is refused, the hospital refunds the deposit. That refund is the hospital's own undertaking rather than ours, so ask the hospital to confirm the amount and the refund terms in writing before you pay anything.
The rest of the application — embassy fees, documents, your own time — is not recoverable, and that is worth knowing before you start.
Can you guarantee that the visa will be approved?
No, and neither can anyone else. The decision belongs to the Swiss embassy alone and nobody can influence it.
Anyone who tells you otherwise is not being straight with you. What we can do is make sure the application is built on a genuine invitation from a hospital that has agreed to see the patient.
Is a referral enquiry treated confidentially?
Yes. Referral enquiries are handled privately.
Please do not include detailed medical information in a first message through this website. Tell us how to reach you and we will take it from there through a more appropriate channel.
